SinopseCharlie Lang (NICHOLAS CAGE) é um tipo simpático, com aspirações simples: ser um bom polícia e amar a sua mulher. Porém, Muriel, a sua esposa (ROSIE PEREZ), uma fogosa cabeleireira, tem ambições diferentes e o seu sonho é mudar-se para Manhathan, onde poderá ter uma vida espampanante. Yvonne Biasi (BRIDGET FONDA) é uma jovem empregada de mesa num pequeno café. Quando, um dia, Charlie almoça no café, apercebe-se de que não tem dinheiro para deixar gorjeta a Yvonne. Mostrando o bilhete de lotaria que comprou para Muriel, Charlie promete a Yvonne metade do que ganharem...
Espantosamente, Charlie ganha mesmo a lotaria e é sua intenção cumprir a promessa. Muriel fica furiosa e quer a todo o custo que Charlie esqueça essa ideia. SynopsisCharlie and Muriel Lang have led simple lives - for most of their existance. That's until they win $4 million on the lottery! There is a problem, however. Prior to winning the lottery, Charlie had eaten at a cafe and hadn't been able to tip the waitress. He had promised her, jokingly, that if he won the lottery he'd give her half of it. This is why his wife, Muriel decides to leave him. She doesn't want the waitress to get a cent of their money. Infact she wants all $4 million for herself!
